    Minority Broadcasters Seek Federal Aid

Here we go again, whining minority groups are getting more taxpayer money to put pressure on local radio and national radio to break up and give equal time to a bunch of crap no one wants to hear..... Glenn Beck is fuming.

WASHINGTON --A group of minority broadcasters asked Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner Monday for financial assistance akin to the aid that has been extended to the financial and auto industries.

"Minority-owned broadcasters are close to becoming an extinct species," the letter said. "Even in better economic times, minority broadcasters have historically had difficulties accessing the capital markets."

The broadcasters told Mr. Geithner they can bounce back if they are given some temporary assistance while the credit markets are slow. "Unlike the auto business, broadcasting has been healthy for many years," their letter said.

The broadcasters appeal follows a proposal sent in May to Mr. Geithner by a group of influential House members asking for a minority broadcaster support program, bridge funding, or government-backed loans.

The House letter was signed by House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D., S.C.) and a group of key committee chairmen, including Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank (D., Mass.) Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles Rangel (D., N.Y.) and Oversight Committee Chairman Edolphus Towns, (D., N.Y.).

At a hearing last week, National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters President James Winston told lawmakers that advertisers have severely cut investments in minority audiences at the same time minority broadcasters are having difficulty negotiating loan terms with banks.

Research from the Internet advocacy group Free Press says minorities own just 7.7% of full power commercial radio stations and 3.2% of full power commercial TV stations.

Minority broadcast ownership also is an issue important to Federal Communications Commission Commissioner Michael Copps, who was acting chairman of the agency earlier this year.

Companies and groups that signed on to the Geithner letter included the National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters, the Inner City Broadcasting Coalition, the Spanish Broadcasting System, Taxi Productions Inc., and Carter Broadcast Group, Inc.

Of course if there aren't always equal outcomes, it is due to racism and discrimination, and by God, the government had better make it right! The government better do something to make the outcomes equal! And they better do so by taking from the rest of us to make it all equal!!

Unless of course it is a context in which minorities dominate, then its okay. Ex: the NBA. Is the over-representation of African-Americans in the NBA due to discrimination against NON-Blacks? If not, then what? Because we have been told that outcome differences cannot be due to physiological or genetic differences between the races, so what is it then? Sorry, but I've never yet heard anyone explain this.

Another excellent example of ethnocentric Hispanic advocacy groups piggy-backing right along with African-Americans on every issue, to get all the goodies they don't deserve for their own group. The Spanish Broadcasting System is right there with them. Another example of how current immigrants are NOTHING, NOTHING like our ancestors, who did not get any special treatment immediately upon stepping foot in this country.

This whole post is maddening enough regarding the Black minority broadcast groups, but at least, at least, they can claim real past discrimination. But there are the entitled Hispanics, in the name of "civil rights" and "equal rights". There isn't anything "equal" about it to "non-minorities".

Notice: You don't see any Asian broadcasting groups listed or talked about above, do you? They are usually either successful in thsis country, or if not, they don't, as a group, whine and cry and demand ever more government guarantees of equal outcomes.

How many media sources like newspapers have had to close because of lack of advertising? It is just a risk of doing business, when Fred the carpenter and Mom's Diner can no longer afford to advertise, much less stay open.
Does anyone blame banks for being careful about who they lend to, when they realize, probably better than anyone the state of the economy?
