Happy Birthday Al Gore..er..Public Internet turns 20!

AIM Newswire — April 30, 2013

WASHINGTON — Happy Birthday Public Internet! The World Wide Web as we know it has turned 20 years old today!

In 1989, Tim Berners-Lee developed the internet technology to help physicists share information in universities and institutions across the world. Berners-Lee worked at the European science agency CERN and CERN made his W3 software a public domain, giving birth to the invention known as the Internet.

But, Berners-Lee is the first one to say he did not invent it, saying that “I was lucky enough to invent the Web at the time when the Internet already existed.”
Could you imagine a world without Facebook, Twitter and Instagram?

Berners-Lee, known as the “Godfather of the Internet”, credits Bob Kahn and Vint Cerf for creating the Internet through the “Internet Protocol” (IP), which the Internet uses to send information from computer to computer.

But the real question is, has Al Gore baked his own birthday cake yet?
