Thread: Making back some of those lost dollars....

I would love to encourage my fellow patriots and ALIPACers, to start a small business.

We have allowed our son to set up a small candy shop in the front of our garage. We live on the backend of a complex, in a duplex. He started in March by stocking up on candy from grocery liquidation stores locally, and also from warehouses (Cash and Carry, and one local vending company).

He also did some Ebay deals for trivial toys and little girl jewelry items, offering Cokes and Sprites and basic popsicles. This is all doing great, kids love having him down here, and as we speak, he has not closed yet because they also want to come and socialize with him, he will bounce their ball really hard for them, which thrills them (might be the constant candy high!), and as an almost 17 year old guy will do, act like a total goof to get them to laugh. So needless to say, they come and buy and get entertainmment.

What we did not expect to really sell, and he only started out with a little of is Jarritos sodas. He is now up to having to order full cases special order (from Cash and Carry) in order to be sure he carries all the flavors (I mean ALL). He is selling almost a half case a day (of course selling it 50 cents cheaper than even the Mexican grocery stores and restaurants are helps)!!

Tonight he commented how they (the adults) love coming to him for his cheaper price. He then said something I thought I'd share, "if people would open little businesses where they sell the stuff these people loved having in Mexico, and have reasonable prices, they could get back some of those dollars we have been losing, that were going back in remittances".

What we do know from some people who were Mexican nationals (legal immigrants) we have met, have told us something our son has hung onto, almost all Mexicans, and people of Central American nations, love having stuff brought to them to buy.

People, if you are out of work, or struggling and have time on your hands, look into a business license in your area, find out what it takes, and find those hot spots in your town, sell items (not perishable, nor requires food handling, thats too much to deal with) they want and need that they are familiar with, keep your overhead low, and bring those dollars from stolen jobs back into the American economy. Use good old American ingenuity.

That does not neccesarily follow the storekeepers have less dollars to send back but the customers have more. However their sending back remittances is not where the problem lies it is how their beneficiaries use them.

The idea from him was beating the storekeepers who have these markets (Mexican) and also netting back some that would have otherwise gone back to the purchasers nation (sure we can't get it all, but why not do as much as possible to try?).

Besides, up here, we found out that the city (where we live) does not check the legal status of those who apply to have a business license to run one of those markets, and two were shut down a while back that did not even have a business license......we wondered how many of these markets were being run by people here illegally? Even more reason for Americans to start doing something to bring those dollars back, even if it seems minimal.
