    Ralph Rosado

    Charlotte County High-Speed Chase Arrest.

A chase that started in Collier County, stretched north through two other counties and reached speeds of 145 mph, ended with the arrest of a 30-year-old Hollywood, Fla. man.

Around 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday evening, authorities started pursuit of a 2004 Acura. The Florida Highway Patrol reported the speeds varied from 110 to 145 mph, but broke off pursuit. At mile marker 134 a Lee County Sheriff’s helicopter positioned overhead of the speeding car that now was driving about 100mph on its front rim entering Charlotte County.

The following is according to a Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office release:

Less than an hour after the start of the chase, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office learned that the suspect finally stopped at mile marker 169 by the Rampart Blvd. overpass, Port Charlotte. A deputy made contact with the man fleeing on foot who refused to stop, and was finally taken to the ground. The man refused to comply and the deputy told him he would be Tased if he did not stop resisting. At that time the deputy and man were on the ground but the deputy couldn’t get to his Taser. Being only eight feet from passing traffic on I-75, and that both might end up on the highway in the path of oncoming traffic, the deputy disengaged with the subject.

The man got up and began running; the deputy fired his Taser with only one prong striking him. The deputy took him to the ground again and with a second stun and help of responding deputies who just arrived, the man was finally handcuffed. FHP arrived and verified the man in the fleeing car was their subject. He was identified as Ralph Rosado, 30, 2100 Van Buren St., Hollywood, Florida.

Rosado was taken to Charlotte Regional Medical Center, treated and released, then transported to the Charlotte County jail. FHP towed his vehicle for forfeiture proceedings. CCSO charged Rosado with Resisting an Officer with Violence; FHP charged him with Fleeing to Elude and Reckless Driving. Bond was set at $10,500 on the FHP charges, but there is no bond on the CCSO charge.
