The slayings that have made Juárez one of the most violent cities along the U.S.-Mexico border continued Sunday, when authorities found the bodies of five people.

Three men -- two between ages 20 and 25, and the third between 40 and 45 -- were found shot to death on a sidewalk near the intersection of Uruguay and José Borunda streets about 1 a.m.

About five hours later, investigators were called to a clinic after 32-year-old MartÃ*n RamÃ*rez Monreal arrived with several gunshot wounds and died hours later. Mexican authorities said RamÃ*rez Monreal was ambushed and shot by three young men when he arrived at his home on Zirapán Street in the Plutarco Eliás Calles colonia.

In a separate homicide, the body of a man, between the ages of 25 and 30, was discovered at 10 a.m.. It was unknown where the man was killed, but his body

was lying near Gradma and CapulÃ*n streets. He appeared to have been beaten with a rock.
The ongoing violence -- execution-style killings and shootings -- in Juárez has been linked to the warring Juárez and Sinaloa drug cartels. Last week, Mexican authorities said the death toll had already passed 400.

A threat left outside the city's police offices Saturday targeted police officers and officers who work the night shift in the department's Delta unit.

Also Saturday, Hilda Sánchez Meléndez, 46, was gunned down near a cemetery in the town of Guadalupe Distrito Bravos, across the border from Fabens. She was in the back seat of a beige 1998 Chrysler 300 M.

Two other men, one identified as 18-year-old Leonardo Daniel Mendoza Najera, were wounded by gunfire at Gaviotas and Rodolfo Fierro streets on Saturday.

No arrests were made.
