Share CAIRO, July 7 (UPI) -- The Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt set up a petition to back calls for political change in Egypt voiced by former IAEA chief Mohamed ElBaradei, the group said.

The Muslim Brotherhood called on "all who care for Egypt's well being" to sign a petition supporting a change platform advocated by ElBaradei.

ElBaradei returned to Egypt in February following his tenure as the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, where he earned the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005.

His return sparked rumors he would challenge 82-year-old President Hosni Mubarak in 2011 elections, though he maintains his priority is political change.

Egyptian emergency laws in place since 1981 restrict certain political activity.

The Muslim Brotherhood in the petition on its Ikhwanweb site calls for an end to the emergency law, greater election transparency and press freedoms.

"The escalating waves of torture and abuse and the continued forging of the people's will during elections has prompted the urgent call by the Muslim Brotherhood jointly with (ElBaradei's) National Assembly for Change to launch the campaign calling for signatures," the group said.
