Despite Immigration Stance, McCain Lost Ground w/ Hispanics

Economy more important to Hispanics than immigration reform

McCain Lost Ground with Hispanics, Despite Immigration Stance

    Thursday, November 06, 2008

    By Tiffany Gabbay

(CNSNews.com) - Two-thirds of Hispanics – 66 percent – voted in favor of Barack Obama on Election Day, despite Republican John McCain’s long-time support of the Hispanic community, his work on comprehensive immigration reform, and the McCain-Kennedy immigration bill.

McCain won 32 percent of the Hispanic vote, less than the 40 percent garnered by President Bush in 2004, but more than the 21 percent that former Sen. Bob Dole received in his presidential race in 1996.

McCain, along with Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.), had sponsored an immigration-reform bill in 2000 that would have set-up guest-worker visas and created a “pathway to citizenshipâ€

He lost LEGAL hispanics because he was a LAME candidate. Pandering to those who supported illegal immigration also hurt him among hispanics who emigrated LEGALLY and are now citizens.

Hispanics, who made up eight percent of the total voter turnout, are America’s fastest growing and largest ethnic minority and, according to Lopez, “most of that growth comes from new births and not immigration.â€

This just shows you how stupid McCain was. What idiot was running his campaign? Campaigning for immigration reform lost him both the Hispanic vote and the conservative American vote!!

McCain promised the illegal alien supporters in the Hispanic community and other communities all they wanted and they all screwed him.

I hope the next candidate for President from the GOP will remember this lesson.

    ENFORCEMENT ONLY!

Good point. However, and I realize that the Hispanic block of voters cannot be pigeon-holed into one mind set, how did the family values and pro-life virtues play into the mix?

Does pandering to a block of voters only help to isolate that block into a racial block as opposed to being just an American voter?

Why should the Republican platform go beyond this statement?

Welcome to the Republican Party, we are a conservitive bunch of Americans, please leave your hyphenated charachteristics at the door.

Should that not be, and could it attract more attention to all voters reguardless of race?

I believe we conservitives should leave the divide and conquer tactics where they belong, with the Democrats. May they choke on them!

Even though McCain was pushing amnesty, it was the democrat's healthcare and redistribution of wealth many liked. I look at Florida and many Hispanics came from South America and many of those countries are socialist. The Cubans were split depending on when they came here. The newer citizens like handouts and the older Cubans dislike them for that reason and are vocal about it. Many Hispanics are also from countries which had military governments as well and used to having big brother tell them what is best for them.
