Has Britain ceased to be British?

Today, the Mail begins serialising a profoundly important and thought-provoking book that examines what has happened in our society in the 55 years since the Queen's coronation.

AN Wilson's powerful analysis should be required reading for anyone who cares about this country.

Though some of his conclusions are disturbing, anyone who thinks he overstates his case need only look at the photograph on page 49, which seems to sum up a nation losing direction and any belief in itself.

It isn't the first time he has been seen toting such a burden.


Yet he claims he is so afflicted with back pain that he can't work. He receives £8,000 a year in incapacity benefit.

But then, this poisonous purveyor of hate knows only too well how to milk our welfare system.

Even before this handout, his family in West London - where he has an £800,000 house - was claiming £45,000 a year in child benefit, income support, housing benefit and council tax credits.

No matter that he lied his way into Britain on a fake passport. No matter that Jordan wants him extradited over terrorist attacks.


No matter that he rails against Jews and calls for the killing of non-Muslims. No matter that he has been described by a judge as 'truly dangerous'. He still seems untouchable.

We can't kick him out, because it might infringe his human rights. We can't keep him in jail, for the same reason.


Instead, he is allowed to stay at home on supposedly strict bail, forbidden to contact a long list of terror suspects and banned from using mobile phones.

And how does he observe these 'strict' conditions?

Last week the Mail photographed him in the company of terrorist Yasser Al-Sirri, who - in absentia - has been sentenced to death in Egypt for his part in a car bombing.

Al-Sirri was pictured on his mobile, apparently relaying messages on Qatada's behalf.

What has happened to our country?


Our enemies are protected. Fanaticism is indulged. Public safety appears to matter not a jot.


The judiciary seems united in an unholy conspiracy to ensure no undesirable is ever deported. How in the name of sanity did we come to this?

That brings us back to AN Wilson and the changes that have rent Britain asunder.

Nobody doubts that we are better off today than in the 1950s.


But haven't we also lost any sense of what it means to be together as a nation?

The Church of England is close to dissolution, more concerned with gay bishops than providing moral guidance.

Our sovereignty is sacrificed to Europe. Constitutional tinkering encourages Scottish separatism.

Comprehensive education deepens the class divide and betrays those who most need help.

But the biggest transformation has been caused by mass immigration, which has accelerated hugely under Labour.

That was accompanied by an obsession with multiculturalism which, as we know only too well, encourages the ghetto mentality.

These changes weren't inevitable. They were encouraged by governments over the years, Tory as well as Labour.

Sadly, Britain is governed by career politicians who think they know best and couldn't care less about public opinion.

To quote AN Wilson: 'The result of all these changes, in so many different areas of our national life, is plain.

'Britain is less British today than it was half a century ago'. Indeed. We seem to be losing our way as a nation.

Isn't that why voters are so disillusioned and politicians so distrusted?

Seriously, it's all a part of us being one world and no separate country's, all led by greedy power-mongering business men.
It's global everything. The trouble is, WE aren't buying anything. We are being bought, our banks, roads, historical places, real estate and business's, GONE.

It's been planned a long time, personally I think we are over the cliff already..... The only thing to stop it is if the radical Muslims get there first. They too are slowly setting up their plans.

Political correctness also allows it to continue. The majority of people do not get the info we have here, and don't have time to search the Internet, to be inundated with info, after weeding out the crap. They have no idea of the SPP, NAU, CFR, and the NAFTA Superhighway. Ask any of your friends!
