Our economy is in crisis, and our government says that bold action is required. So we're diving in head first to get things back on track. But... what are we diving into exactly? Take a closer look at the government response to our current economic crisis with narrator Nick Gillespie of ReasonTV. And please visit http://stopspendingourfuture.org for more information and to find out what you can do to help!

Note: Crisis spending numbers are based on the following report: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid= ... chK__XUF84

Since the report's release, the Fed has spent hundreds of billions more, driving up total spending to the levels shown in this video.

Over in the UK Gordon Brown is spending more, per capita, than Barack Obama. Obama, as his conservative critics are quick to point out, will borrow more during his presidency than all 43 of his predecessors. But Gordon Brown will borrow more in the next two years than in the whole history of our national debt, since it was instituted in 1693.

    And what's Obama at?

Bailout of Bear Stearns - $29.5 Billion

Bailout of Bank of Americia - $97.2 Billion

Bailout for Detroit - $97.4 Billion

Bailout of AIG - $112 billion

Bailout of GE - $139 Billion

    Bailout of Citi -$235 Billion

Bailout of Mortgage holders $300 billion

    Bailout of Fannie/Freddie $400 billion

Borrowed funds for TARP $700 Billion

Borrowed funds for stimulus packages $787 Billion

Which is a total of about $4 Trillion and all this since September 2008.

This is just a little less than the entire costs of World War 1 ($324bn) , World War 2 ($3.6tn) and the Iraq War ($597bn) combined.

But Obama has committed additional spending of a futher $7.8 Trillion

Leaving a grand total of almost $12 trillion.

    Yes, $12,000,000,000,000

Stop Spending Our Future: Contests on Government Spending

Hope and change indeed. This wouldn't have happened on my watch.

There are bankruptcy laws and they are there for a reason. Too big to fail, too big my ar*e. What happens when a country is so mired in debt it fails?
