As seen on Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo
Oct 19,2014
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) joined Maria Bartiromo on Sunday Morning Futures today to discuss the upcoming midterm elections, the state of the U.S. economy and the government's response to Ebola.
Dr. Fauci: WHO's Ebola Protocols 'Not Optimal,' Likely Why Nurses Infected
Ryan said he is optimistic about Republican candidates' chances in the coming election, despite the fact that Democrats have more money and are choosing to run negative attack ads.
"I think we're gonna prevail, and I think we will get the Senate," Ryan said, adding that Americans are sick and tired of a Senate that accomplishes nothing, letting important bills gather dust because of a political logjam.
If the GOP indeed takes the Senate, Ryan said job legislation will be a top priority, creating jobs with planned energy and spending bills to get Americans back to work and add certainty to the economy.
"There are a lot of things that have to get done that we will do ... add some certainty to the economy, give businesses and hard-working taxpayers a little more confidence to take a risk, to save, to plan, to invest, so that we can get out of this slow growth phase we're in," Ryan said, adding that he thinks an absence of American leadership has been the reason for the recent stock market turbulence.
Judge Jeanine Blasts ‘Bozo Community Organizer Tom Frieden,’ Calls for Travel Ban
As for the government's response to Ebola in the U.S., Ryan said that he was puzzled by the appointment of Ron Klain as Ebola czar, characterizing it as an "inside, crony type of selection."
He said that we should consider every possible precaution - travel bans, quarantines, etc. - to make sure that we stay ahead of the Ebola outbreak. His bigger concern, however, is with the overall size and competence of the government.
"Right now, there is a huge lack of confidence in the competence of our government, and I think that is in large part because of the president's failed policies."
