EL PASO -- Three patients are being treated at Thomason Hospital for gunshot wounds they received in Juárez over the weekend, hospital officials said Monday.
So far, Thomason has treated 26 victims of the violence and drug war in Juárez. The latest victim, a man in his 50s, arrived at Thomason at 1 a.m. Monday, hospital spokeswoman Margaret Althoff-Olivas said.
El Paso Fire Department spokesman Lt. Mario Hernandez said paramedics were called to the Bridge of the Americas early Monday to transport a 50-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the chest to Thomason.
Althoff-Olivas said she didn't know if the man is a U.S. citizen.
On Sunday morning, a 15-year-old boy, who is originally from Phoenix, was taken to Thomason with gunshot wounds he sustained in Juárez, Althoff-Olivas said. She said the boy is a U.S. citizen.
El Paso police on Saturday escorted a 37-year-old gunshot victim from Juárez across the Bridge of the Americas to Thomason Hospital.
About 4:35 p.m., El Paso police were called to the bridge about a man with a gunshot wound in the abdomen. Police escorted the ambulance from the bridge to the hospital.
The victim told paramedics he was nearly abducted by three or four people, but while fleeing was shot, fire officials said.
Names of the three victims were not made public Monday.
Althoff-Olivas
said there was no need for high security as a result of treating the victims. The hospital was operating as normal on Monday, Althoff-Olivas said.
