Bridge-building Vladimir Putin wants tunnel to US

VLADIMIR PUTIN, the Russian president, is to raise plans for a tunnel to link his country with America when he meets his US counterpart, George W Bush, next Sunday.

The 64-mile tunnel would run under the Bering Strait between Chukotka, in the Russian far east, and Alaska; the cost is estimated at £33 billion.

Roman Abramovich, the owner of Chelsea football club and governor of Chukotka, has invested £80m in the world’s largest drill but has denied that it is linked with the development.

Proposals for such a tunnel were approved by Tsar Nicholas II in the early 20th century but were abandoned during the Soviet era. If finally built, the tunnel would allow rail connections between London and New York.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA this has to be the end of the world as we know it. GW will go for it; it's not like he has a lick of sense ... thats all Russia and China needs is a way to mass vehicles across the Bering straight to take down this pathetically weak country... 10 to 1 this is already a done deal and mega corporations are going to get more of your money

I hope you people strongly oppose this... look what happened to England when the (Chunnel) The Channel Tunnel was completed between England and France.

please don't pay attention to the £33 billion. The dollar is weak against the pound..... and it takes almost 2 dollars to get one pound... Russia will undoubtedly want the US to pay for half... pretty cheap for our own downfall

Oh.. by the way America... we will have to borrow the money from China... the last time I checked we were so broke when the Federal government opened up it's wallet, a little dust cloud blew out
