AUSTIN - New requirements take effect today to get a Texas driver's license. You'll have to prove you've lived in the state for at least 30 days.
You'll have to show two documents that have your name and address. One of those two has to prove you've lived in the state 30 days. That could be a valid voter registration card, a utility statement, a concealed handgun license or a health insurance card. There are many other documents that can be used as well.
DPS will waive the new 30-day requirement if you are surrendering a valid, unexpired driver license from another state.
