Police: Middle School Students Had Sexual Contact In Class
School Says Teens ' Given Consequences' After Incident
POSTED: 3:42 pm EDT May 9, 2011
LAWRENCE, Ind. -- Lawrence police have closed a sexual assault investigation after determining two teens had consensual sexual contact during class at Fall Creek Valley Middle School.
Police said a 15-year-old male student put his hand down the pants of a 14-year-old female student in fourth period health when the lights were out in the classroom for a movie.
School officials did not find out about what happened until days after the incident, when the girl's friend told a teacher, according to the police report.
"An incident of inappropriate touching involving two FCV students was reported to the administration last week," the school said in a statement released Monday. "The situation was immediately investigated by FCV administrators and public safety authorities."
Police said they determined the act was consensual after reading Facebook posts from the girl in which "she talked openly about enjoying the experience and wanting to do it again," according to the report.
"Although the behavior was consensual, such behavior is unacceptable in the school setting," the school's statement read. "Both students were given consequences for their improper conduct."
The girl's mother told 6News' Joanna Massee by phone that she disapproves of the school's handling of the situation and does not believe the act was consensual.
Some parents said they believe the school should have contacted them when they learned of the incident. The school's statement was posted online after 6News inquired about the investigation.
"Maybe they just need to start watching the movie with the lights on or something," parent Phillip Austin said. "I don't know if the teacher needs to be fired, but definitely something put in place to make sure something like that never happens again."
School officials said Monday that no movies will be shown in the class for the rest of the school year. They said the teacher who was supervising the class was not found to be negligent in the incident.

What a shame these young kids feel it necessary to post such on face book. The need to feel connected seems to be a huge problem with our young folk. I feel deep sorrow they are growing up in a world without standards, values, morals, at this point not sure it can be changed.
