Government goes big to burn bomb house

In this era of tea-party rebellion, the burning of the bomb house is an illuminating symbol.

Or so I thought last week while sitting among a few hundred Escondido residents listening to a panel of public safety officials explain how a controlled fire was the best method to defuse a deadly cache of explosive material.

The emcee, Sheriff Bill Gore emphasized that no effort had been spared to reach the conclusion that the torching of George Jakubec’s volatile hoard was scientifically sound and fundamentally safe.
