Never thought I'd side with Change.org, but for Syrians, I'll change

Maha Hilal and Darakshan Raja have been watching the news out of Syria with horror.
The reports are real to them because they have Syrian friends who have been living, studying and working in the United States, but who could be forced to go back to Syria -- facing torture, imprisonment, and even death -- simply because their visas have run out.

Maha and Darakshan -- who started a petition last year on Change.org in support of the reality TV show "All American Muslim" -- don’t want to see their friends sent back to imminent danger. They started a petition on Change.org asking U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano to grant all Syrians in the U.S. "Temporary Protected Status" -- which would protect them from being sent back to war-torn Syria.

in the U.S. who are at risk of torture, imprisonment and even death if they're sent back to Syria.

The situation in Syria is a living nightmare, leading the United Nations to officially designate what's happening there "Crimes Against Humanity." In total, more than 7,000 people have been killed for voicing their opinion -- including journalists and humanitarian aid workers. Civilians are being tortured for simply supporting pro-democracy protests. Even children and babies have been executed by Syrian military forces loyal to Bashar al-Assad.

Secretary Napolitano has the power to save Syrians in the United States from facing the same fate. And Temporary Protected Status has been granted before -- for Haitian and Sudanese immigrants living in the U.S.

As the Obama administration uses diplomacy to save Syrian lives, it’s critical to let Secretary Napolitano know that there are thousands of Syrians in the United Sates who also need protection -- and should not be sent back to unspeakable horrors under Syria’s Assad regime.

to protect Syrians currently in the U.S. -- not send them back to imminent danger.

    Thanks for being a change-maker,

    - Emilia and the Change.org team

One man's terrorist is another man's undocumented worker.

Unless we enforce laws against illegal aliens today,
tomorrow WE may wake up as illegals.

The last word: illegal aliens are ILLEGAL!
