Palin: 2012 decision 'coming rapidly'

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) said Wednesday evening that she's looking to make a decision on whether to run for president in the next couple of months.

Palin said the timeframe for her decision is "coming rapidly," and suggested the decision would be made in August or September, setting up a possible late entry into the campaign by the 2008 vice presidential nominee.

"Well, legally, of course, there are timeframes. And that time is coming rapidly in front of all of us," she said on Fox News. "You know, August and September, you do have to start laying out a plan if you are to be one to throw your hat in the ring. So that's basically the timeframe."

Palin's continually flirted with running for president, and has made every effort to, at a minimum, keep her name among the list of candidates or potential candidates for the GOP presidential nomination.

The premiere of the documentary about her career in Iowa and a recent Newsweek cover, in which Palin says she thinks she could beat Obama in 2012, helps maintain Palin's profile as a potential candidate.

"I did say in that article that I believed that I could win, and then I went on to say but it doesn't have to be me," she said on Fox. "If there are those who are out there willing to serve, with good executive experience, who have that servant's heart and know not to be so excessively partisan that they can't just do what's right for the people who have elected them, then I would certainly find that person and support them and do all that I could to make sure that they defeat Barack Obama in 2012."

Palin still lags far behind Obama in head-to-head polling, though she typically places third or fourth in most national polls of Republicans' preference in a nominee.

For what it's worth, Bristol Palin, the former governor's daughter, has said her mom has made up her mind on whether to run.
