Italians First! 'If Italy is harmed, we will reject the eurozone budget' -

Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Matteo Salvini on Monday discussed the eurozone budget proposal. The ever rising in popularity, Matteo Salvini, says if Italy is harmed, they will reject the eurozone budget.

The French-German proposal seems to do just that and as such, Italy will reject it. Italy and Brussels have been in what can only be described as a showdown over Italy’s 2019 budget draft.

The European Commission has rejected the draft whilst Italy has dug in their heels refusing the change it.

In late October when the EC demanded changes to the draft, Premier Giuseppe Conte said “the critical opinion of the Commission was in the air, we decided to elaborate a budget that rejects austerity and embraces growth.”

Deputy Premier Luigi Di Maio leader of the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement (M5S) and also labour and industry minister also said in October that “it’s the first budget that the EU doesn’t like. I’m not surprised: it’s the first Italian budget that was written in Rome and not in Brussels”.

Deputy Premier Matteo Salvini at that time also said that “they’re not attacking a government, but a people. They are things that make Italians even more irritated and then some people complain that the European Union is at the lowest point of its popularity.

“We’re going forward with a smile, the Italians are asking that of us,” said Salvini. Today League party leader Salvini rejected the budget proposal stating: “If it damages Italy, as seems to be the case, obviously it will not have our support”.
