14 tons of spilled Oreo cookies snarl Ill. traffic

    Monday, May 19, 2008

    (05-19) 06:00 PDT Morris, Ill. (AP) --

Police say a trailer loaded with 14 tons of double-stuffed Oreos has overturned, spilling the cookies still in their plastic sleeves into the median and roadway.

Illinois State Police Sgt. Brian Mahoney says the truck's driver was traveling from Chicago to Morris on Interstate 80 around 4 a.m. Monday when he fell asleep at the wheel and slammed into the median.

"The boxes came out of the trailer and boxes were ripped open," he said.

The crash about 50 miles southwest of Chicago remains under investigation.

Mahoney says no charges have been filed but both lanes of traffic remain closed while authorities remove the cookies.

there was a Schlitz beer truck that lost its load of 10050 cases of 12 oz cans.It hit a low underpass on Memorial Drive in Cambridge Ma near the Harvard Dorms. Little was left to salvage as the students did some fast clean up. I drove for them at the time (I was not the driver of this truck

My first thought was a glass of ice cold milk when I read the title.

Have heard of traffic jams but never a traffic cookie.

Was listening to the police scanner late one night and a truck hauling cows was in an accident and the cows escaped. The dispatcher broadcast the call and the deputy sheriff requested help from city officers in some near by small towns for assistance in rounding up the cows.
Cows on a highway present quite a danger to drivers needless to say.

I swear on a bible this is true..................one of the 'city officers' informed the dispatcher he was responding and asked the dispatcher if she had a description of the cows!!!!!!!!!!

Guess he didn't want to arrest any 'innocent cow' by mistake..................I soooooooo wanted to call in and describe a cow to him....... was 'utterly' too funny............
