DALLAS -- The Mexican Consulate wants to send mobile units to Irving to issue identification cards to illegal immigrants to try to save them from arrest and deportation.

Irving Mayor Herbert Gears said the ID cards could prevent only a few arrests, but he promised to meet monthly with Consul Enrique Hubbard Urrea to review any complaints stemming from the city's Criminal Alien Program.

Also easily forged, I've heard.

I'm confused as to how this would prevent deportation, this card proves they are illegal aliens, therefore subject to arrest and deportation.

I get the feeling they are trying to force the Mayor to do something he WILL NOT DO.If my hunch is correct he will use the matriculars as proof they are in our country Illegally which will make deportation easier.Stay Tuned
