Sprint to hire more than 100 people in Texas

OVERLAND PARK, Kan.

Sprint Nextel is holding a job fair Thursday and will hire more than 100 people to staff a Texas call center in Temple, the company said Wednesday.

The company needs to staff to handle an expected increase in customers as it rolls out its 4G network nationally. The term 4G refers to fourth-generation cellular technology.

Sprint needs to fill the positions over the next 60 days.

The company said it has seen overwhelming response to the introduction of new devices, including the HTC Evo, a phone that works on 3G and 4G networks.

The job fair is being held at 1600 Eberhardt Road in Temple, a town that is midway between Dallas and San Antonio.

Shares of Sprint Nextel Corp., based in Overland Park, Kan., rose a penny to $4.16 in afternoon trading.
