A 21-year-old Mexican national was airlifted Wednesday from Columbus Airpark to Las Cruces' Mountain View Regional Medical Center for treatment of burns to his chest and abdomen.
The Luna County Sheriff's Office reported the case seems to be a continuation of ongoing battles in Mexico between drug cartels.

The LCSO reported Aaron Garcia Trevizo, 21, of Palomas, was brought Wednesday morning by Palomas Police to the Columbus Port of Entry, in need of medical treatment. He had third-degree burns on his chest and abdomen and bruises on his wrists.

"Rumor has it," Sheriff's Capt. Arturo Baeza said, "he had been picked up by three or four individuals. They poured some kind of liquid or acid on his chest."

Trevizo also told deputies he was tortured and beaten a week ago and was bound and burned with a hot clothes iron.
