HIGH POINT, N.C. -- Two missionaries who were kidnapped over the weekend in Haiti have been released.
Tom Barron and William Eugene Seastrum were released sometime after 11 a.m. Thursday, according to Barron family contact Mike Metzner. Metzner said the men were in good condition, and arrangements were being made for their return home.
A spokeswoman for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Miami said the men were released after a ransom was paid. The spokeswoman declined to specify the amount of the ransom.
Officials said Barron, a minister at The Mustard Seed church, and Seastrum, a member of his congregation, were driving to church early Sunday when assailants stopped their car and dragged them out.
Charlotte FBI spokesman Ken Lucas said the agency worked with authorities from Haiti, the United Nations and the U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince to get the men released.
Metzner said family members were grateful to the community for their thoughts and prayers.
Last year, 43 Americans were kidnapped in Haiti, including three who were killed in attempted abductions, according to the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Consular Affairs.
