BORREGO SPRINGS, Calif. - Several San Diego heat records came close to falling Friday, but one East County town known for its high temperatures actually attracted some visitors.

Borrego Springs got pretty close to record heat with a 118-degree day.

"You would think this breeze feels good," 10News reporter Joe Little said as a breeze blew across the desert. "But it's actually just like a hair dryer blowing against the back of my skull."

"There are a lot of people who really like it hot," said Palm Canyon Hotel and RV Resort General Manager Shirley Grear. "I have one guest who wants me to call when it is over 110 degrees."

Roughly 3,000 people live in Borrego Springs during the year, but Grear said the population shoots up on weekends with people seeking out warmer temperatures.

"I'm loving it," said Ellen Schrader, who is visiting from St. Louis. "The desert was calling my name."

"You do have to be careful. You have to have enough water," warned Grear. "It's called 'Desert Gold.'"
