(Natural News) Photos and videos showing massive homeless encampments at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago have caused an uproar among Chicagoans.
Passengers were quick to take pictures and videos of the deteriorating situation at the airport and post them on social media. These photos and videos show thousands of people seeking refuge at the airport, with many setting up shelters inside terminal buildings. One photo that went viral showed a group of homeless people sleeping among their belongings near Terminal 1 of the airport. Another photo shows one man slumped inside an entrance vestibule, and another shows a group of about half a dozen homeless people who have occupied an indoor area next to an escalator.
“I flew back to O’Hare, Terminal 3, last week. I had never seen such a homeless problem, in baggage, in the 50 years I have lived in Cook County,” wrote one Chicago native. “It’s not even that cold out … It was dystopian.”
As a secure location, O’Hare does not allow members of the public to stay inside airport property unless they are flying in or out or are employees working there. Unfortunately, this has not stopped Chicago’s homeless population from seeking shelter there.
Jessica Dubuar, director of specialty programs and services for Haymarket Center, an outreach organization for homeless people, noted that the number of people seeking shelter at O’Hare always increases in the winter months. But this year, the increase has been exceptionally higher.
Haymarket Center’s outreach program for the homeless at O’Hare has served 618 homeless people in 2022 – up 58 percent from 2021, when it served 431.
Mayor Lightfoot vows to remove homeless from O’Hare following uproar

Once the pictures and videos of the homeless encampments in O’Hare drew national attention and criticism, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot immediately vowed to do everything she can to remove the homeless people from the airport, calling it a safety issue.
In remarks to reporters on Thursday, Feb. 16, Lightfoot acknowledged the seriousness of the problem while at the same time arguing that news reports about the situation in O’Hare had blown the issue out of proportion.
“The fact of the matter is, we have taken and will continue to take the steps that are necessary to move the people out of the airports,” she said. “The airports are a very different place than on the street, under an underpass. It’s a secure location, and the message is clear from me to the Department of Aviation, the Police Department up there.”
“We absolutely, fundamentally, cannot have people sleeping in our airports who are homeless. That is unacceptable,” she continued. “We are going to continue, within the bounds of the law, to do what is necessary to provide those folks with support but elsewhere. They can’t be in our airports.”

(Natural News) The last two remaining Walmart stores in Portland will be closed by April as the made-in-China retail chain struggles to cut costs and stop the financial bleeding.
Portlanders either do not shop at Walmart or they go there to steal instead of buy things, which has prompted the company to close up shop within the Portland city limits.
On March 24, the Walmart locations at 1123 North Hayden Meadows Drive and 4200 Southeast 82nd Avenue at the Eastport Plaza will no longer be open to the public after the company decided they were not meeting financial expectations.
“The decision to close these stores was made after a careful review of their overall performance,” a spokesperson said.
“We consider many factors, including current and projected financial performance, location, population, customer needs, and the proximity of other nearby stores when making these difficult decisions. After we decide to move forward, our focus is on our associates and their transition, which is the case here.”
A local customer added to this statement by suggesting that the real reason Walmart is leaving Portland is because crime is out of control and eating into the company’s bottom line.
“We’ve got to resolve the shoplifting one way or another,” this person said, “because that is simply the problem. It’s got to stop.” (Related: Walmart is directly responsible for fueling the nation’s opioid crisis, so perhaps Portland is better off without the retail giant’s presence.)
Amazon Go to close numerous stores in New York City, Seattle, and San Francisco

Since the start of the Wuhan coronavirus (Covid-19) scamdemic, some 2,600 downtown businesses have left Portland for greener pastures. Another one of them besides Walmart is Umpqua Bank, which left the city due to rising crime and homelessness.
Like many other American cities, Portland also has a drug problem that is driving businesses away. Used needless and poop piles litter the city’s streets, much like they do in nearby Seattle.
Another company fleeing America’s most crime-ridden cities is Amazon Go, which is shutting down a handful of its retail stores in New York City, Seattle, and San Francisco.
Two Go stores in NYC will shut down, as will two locations in Seattle and four locations in San Francisco. Keep in mind that these Amazon Go stores are relatively new and have hardly been open for any considerable period of time.
All eight of these Amazon Go stores will be closed by April 1, the company announced.
This is just the tip of the iceberg of what is soon to come and what is already in motion. World War III is looming, as is a total economic and financial collapse – and it will be here before you know it.
“Theft is an issue,” said Walmart CEO Doug McMillon about the spike in “shrink” that drove the company’s decision to leave Portland. “It’s higher than what it has historically been.”
“I think local law enforcement being staffed and being a good partner is part of that equation. … If that’s not corrected over time, prices will be higher, and / or stores will close.”
Other stores that are having trouble staying open in Portland due to rampant crime include Nike, Home Depot, and Target.
According to Jeremy Girard of the Oregon Retail Crime Association, shoplifting has reached a “crisis level” in Portland. The worst-affected stores, he says, are losing as much as $5 million per year due to theft.
“Towns and cities came into existence for trade,” one commenter wrote about the situation. “When commerce goes away, what have you but a ghost town waiting to happen?”

The city of San Francisco is officially in a P.R. nightmare as yet another high-profile death has rocked the City by the Bay — and grabbed more negative press in the process.
According to NBC News, cyclist Ethan Boyes died on Tuesday after a car struck him while he was cycling in a San Francisco park.
The 44-year-old Boyes, whom NBC credited with “multiple world and national track championships,” was ultimately pronounced dead at a hospital.
Boyes was a beloved member of the cycling community, as evidenced by the outpouring of grief at his death:

The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, an organization promoting bicycle use and safety, put out a statement demanding action to prevent future cycling fatalities. The park where Boyes was struck is federal land.
According to the group, Boyes was hit when a car swerved into the oncoming bike lane.

The unidentified driver was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and the crash is under investigation, NBC reported.

Notably, the SFBC called out safety issues in San Francisco — a recurring theme as of late.
“Rates of fatalities and serious injuries on San Francisco streets remain unacceptably high,” the group said.
