HERMISTON, Ore. -- A Hermiston man is facing 10 criminal charges in connection with a chase that might have injured a trooper, state police say.

Troopers say they tried to stop the driver of a 2004 Chrysler at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday on a traffic violation.

The driver, later identified as Josue Sanchez Munoz, didn’t stop, and hit his brakes several times in an attempt to have the trooper hit his car, police say.

For the next 20 minutes, police say, Sanchez Munoz tried to elude troopers at slow speeds in the Hermiston area.

As he drove on Highway 207, Sanchez Munoz crossed the center line several times before making a U-turn near milepost 3, state police say. It was there troopers were able to slow his car and pin it against the highway shoulder.

Sanchez Munoz, 26, tried to run and briefly resisted arrest, according to troopers.

He was taken to the Umatilla County Jail on charges of driving while suspended, attempt to elude in a vehicle, attempt to elude on foot, first-degree attempted assault, second-degree attempted assault, recklessly endangering, menacing, escape, resisting arrest and assaulting a public safety officer.

Police say an officer was examined at a hospital for a possible injury, but didn’t provide details.
