WASHINGTON - The White House drug czar is accusing lawmakers of "sabotaging" a sweeping aid package that would help Mexico fight drug traffic and violence before it crosses the U.S. border.
Some in Congress question giving Mexico $500 million worth of equipment and training to curb drug cartels without also ensuring its law enforcement officials haven't committed human rights, corruption or other criminal violations.

During a press briefing Tuesday, drug czar John Walters questioned the motive of lawmakers who would insist on the conditions that Mexico maintains would scuttle the whole package.

Walters described the conditions as a form of "sabotage" that could undercut efforts to combat drug violence in Mexico.

They may as well " throw the money out the window " as give it to those corrupt officials .
