Edwards: Jesus would be 'appalled' by country's selfishness!

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards says Jesus would be appalled at how the United States has ignored the plight of the suffering, and that he believes children should have private time to pray at school.
Edwards, in an interview with the Web site Beliefnet.com, said Jesus would be most upset with the selfishness of Americans and the country's willingness to go to war “when it's not necessary.”
“I think that Jesus would be disappointed in our ignoring the plight of those around us who are suffering and our focus on our own selfish short-term needs,” Edwards told the site. “I think he would be appalled, actually.”
Edwards also said he was against teacher-led prayers in public schools, but he added that “allowing time for children to pray for themselves, to themselves, I think is not only OK, I think it's a good thing.”
In the interview, the former North Carolina senator discussed how he lost touch with his day-to-day faith during college, but that it “came roaring back” after the death of his 16-year-old son, Wade, in 1996.
Edwards has often cited religion as a part of his politics, frequently linking his efforts to fight poverty as a matter of morality.
Edwards was interviewed by David Kuo, a conservative Christian who served as deputy director of President Bush's Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives until 2003. Kuo wrote a book, “Tempting Faith, An Inside Story of Political Seduction,” that said Bush aides privately called conservative Christians “nuts,” “ridiculous” and “goofy.”
Edwards told Kuo he stood by a decision to keep two bloggers on his staff despite their provocative writings criticizing the Catholic Church. Edwards said he also found the writing offensive, but “decided to forgive them and stand by them, knowing there would be potential political consequences for that.”
The bloggers eventually quit, saying they didn't want to be a liability to the campaign.
Edwards appeared later Monday at a rally at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he told students that America is looking for a “open, honest and decent human being” to occupy the Oval Office.

I have always been told that when you are pointing your finger at someone else, as Edwards pointed to Americans today as being selfish, there are 3 fingers pointing at yourself! It is John himself that just had to have the largest House in the State built for him and his family, now tell me people, just who do you think Jesus might apply that word "selfish" to first in this case?l Give me a break! Another thing, John Edwards
Jesus might just say to you,
" YOU DON'T SPEAK FOR ME"!Build the dam fence post haste!

I just don't understand this idiot John Edwards. Americans give more of their money and resources to impoverished people than any other nation on earth!
Also, our generosity and technological inventions are the reason there are 6.5 billion people on the planet right now. This is the nation that brought the world most of the antibiotics and immunizations that allow most people to live.
I guess Jesus would not count those eh John.
Like I'm going to listen to a guy that lives in a 29,000 sqr foot home telling me I should be more generous.
John Edwards can kiss my hind side.

I guess we greedy and selfish Americans are going to have to pay more than the 40% of our wages that are already forcibly taken from us to help the poor if Edwards is elected.

and this is from a man who has filed lawsuits to make his millions of dollars so he can afford a very large house and alot of property. If he feels so bad about the poor he should denote everything he has to the poor.

I am not one to say that liberals are bad and conservatives are good, I just don't understand the mind set of these liberals who would have us think we, americans are "bad"and our country is bad, what is it with these people? Is this how they build their own self-esteem, by telling us how bad we are for the world and for Jesus for that matter? I really cannot understand how this man could stand up there and say we are selfish, denounce his own countrymen like that, and he thinks he is going to be our President? I would never have the audacity to speak for Jesus, but, I do know what he asked for his descipiles, he might also ask from John Edwards since he deems himself fit to Speak for Jesus, I can almost hear in my mind Jesus saying something like this," John, before we get to the rest of your fellow Americans, let's see if you have the right stuff, John, go and give away all your worldly goods, take nothing except the clothes on your back and the shoes on your feet, then and only then, after you have done as I said, you might also ask of your fellow men to do the same"!
