Sour grapes, Mike?

Mike Castle is refusing to endorse Christine O'Donnell in a stunning display of sour grapes.

For anyone who has spent any amount of time around elected officials, there are two kinds that exist -- those who truly believe that they have some birthright to their current position or the one they are vying for and those who somehow keep firmly in their minds that they work for the people that they represent and it is a rare privilege to get to do so.

Campaigns can be brutal experiences and lots of times, terribly unpleasant. Perhaps Mr. Castle has never had a real challenge before but he needs to rise above any hurt feelings and recognize that he certainly didn't have great things to say about his opponent either.

As to Christine O'Donnell as a candidate, I remain hopeful that she can win this fall and given the momentum her campaign has, she quite possibly will be Senator O'Donnell by this time in January of next year.

I do not know when we got to the place where we expect sheer perfection from our candidates. There was only one perfect person to walk the Earth last time I checked. Is she a principled conservative? Yes. Will she be a more reliable conservative vote than Mike Castle was? Most certainly. Is she a flawed human being who has made mistakes in her life? You bet. And thank heavens for it, it actually makes her human like the rest of us.

Our country is a nation that was pretty much founded by folks looking for a second chance at life. We Americans love our stories of redemptioin...of overcoming diffcult life circumstances, learning from them and applying that newfound wisdom to our lives. Christine O'Donnell could be quite a breath of fresh air in the Senate.
