Obama’s HHS: Now Hiring for the Obamacare Police Force

In the wake of Jeff Duncan's reporting of IRS agents being trained with AR-15s, I think we should be at least somewhat concerned with a breaking news story about the new "ObamaCare" Police. It would seem that the IRS implementation will not be the only strong arm of ObamaCare but that Health and Human Services will have a substantial number of investigative storm troopers as well.

The Daily Mail reports:

More than 1,600 new employees hired by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Resources in the aftermath of Obamacare's passage include just two described as 'consumer safety' officers, but 86 tasked with 'criminal investigating' – indicating that the agency is building an army of detectives to sleuth out violations of a law that many in Congress who supported it still find confusing.

On the day President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act into law in 2010, HHS received authority from the Office of Personnel Management(OPM) to make as many as 1,814 new hires under an emergency 'Direct Hiring Authority' order.

We are going to need more hollow point bullets it would seem.

Is anyone really shocked by the fact that we have a brand new enforcement branch of HHS? I doubt it.

This seems to be the norm in Washington these days. Last week we featured the story of a retired Marine Colonel who claims that a domestic army is being built. And who could blame anyone for thinking that? It is happening right in front of us.

The Daily Mail article goes on to say:

The fleet of 86 new criminal investigators are earning a range of compensation between $51,800 and $89,350, according to the 2010 salary tables and differential payment guidelines.

Judicial Watch, a nonprofit that has told MailOnline it files 'hundreds' of FOIA requests, first published evidence in July of the HHS hiring binge. 'Sounds like we now have the Obamacare police,' said the group's president, Tom Fitton, after MailOnline showed him the new data.

So is someone going to come and bust my door down if I am too poor to provide health insurance for my family?

Come on.

This is America.

Why are IRS agents training with AR-15 assault weapons?

The AR-15 (ArmaLite Rifle-15) is a lightweight, 5.56 mm, magazine-fed, semi-automatic rifle, with a rotating-lock bolt, actuated by direct impingement gas operation or long/short stroke piston operation. First built by ArmaLite as an assault rifle for the United Statesarmed forces, financial problems led ArmaLite to sell the AR-15 design was sold to Colt. The select-fire version of the AR-15 entered the U.S. military system as the M16 rifle. Colt then started selling the semi-automatic version of the M16 rifle as the Colt AR-15 for civilian sales in 1963.

Norvell Rose reports for Liberty News, June 12, 2013, that in late May, Congressman Jeff Duncan (R-SC), chairman of the House Homeland Security oversight subcommittee, toured a federal law enforcement facility and noticedagents training with the semi-automatic weapons. Even though it was a Dept. of Homeland Security (DHS) training facility, the shooters reportedly identified themselves as Internal Revenue Service enforcement.

Duncan (pic above) says he was surprised to hear they worked for the IRS:

When I left there, it’s been bugging me for weeks now, why IRS agents are training with a semi-automatic rifle AR-15, which has stand-off capability. Are Americans that much of a target that you need that kind of capability?

The IRS defends the training, in a statement that reads, in part:

As law enforcement officials, IRS Criminal Investigation Special Agents are equipped similarly to other federal, state and local law enforcement organizations. Special Agents receive training on the appropriate and safe use of assigned weapons.

In responding to the revelation about IRS agents training on AR-15s at a DHS facility, the agency included a link to its enforcement website. But the website contains no obvious reference to the need for, or use of, high-powered assault rifles. Instead, there are statements such as the following, which have nothing at all to do with tax agents training to use semi-automatic weapons in their enforcement operations:

Today’s sophisticated schemes to defraud the government demand the analytical ability of financial investigators to wade through complex paper and computerized financial records.

When individuals and corporations make deliberate decisions to not comply with the law, they face the possibility of a civil audit or criminal investigation which could result in prosecution and possible jail time.

Neither “analytical ability” nor “civil audit” nor “criminal investigation” entails the use of assault rifles.
