Barack Obama: A “Record Setting” President

Barack Obama: A “Record Setting” President

Written on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 by David L. Goetsch

Once the passions of the moment have settled down and historians have had time to undertake a retrospective view of things, presidents are generally remembered by their records. Some benefit from the more objective perspective of history and some do not. At the moment, President Obama benefits from being telegenic, having the support of the mainstream media, and having a firm grip on the loyalty of Americans who subsist by dipping into the federal treasury. However, Obama is driving America’s train down a one-way track that will take it over a cliff, and what awaits us at the bottom of the cliff is disaster.

In years to come, when historians have had the time to gain a more realistic perspective on Barack Obama’s performance as president, they are going to have to analyze some facts that will be difficult for even the most liberal among them to excuse or ignore. Consider just a few of the records set by President Obama during his time in office, and while doing so also consider that the sources of the information presented herein include his own Office of Management and Budget and Bureau of Labor Statistics:

America’s sovereign debt rating has been downgraded for the first time in our nation’s history.
Federal spending is the highest it has been since World War II (25 percent of GDP).
The budget deficit is the highest it has been since World War II (10 percent of GDP).
Federal debt is the highest it has been since just after World War II (67 percent of GDP).
Employment as a percentage of the population is the lowest it has been since 1983 (just 58.1 percent of the population are working).
Long-term unemployment is the highest it has been since 1939 (45.9 percent of the total unemployed are now long-term unemployed).
Slowest recovery following a severe recession since World War II.
Lowest homeownership rate since 1965 (59.7 percent).
Lowest percentage of taxpayers paying income taxes in the modern era (49 percent).
Highest rate of government dependency in American history (47 percent of Americans receive one or more federal benefit payments).

These numbers show conclusively the implications of the philosophy that government is the answer. What they do not show is the steady erosion of the work ethic and its replacement by an entitlement mentality. As things stand now, only a little over half of all Americans are working and less than half are paying taxes to finance the massive federal spending of the Obama administration. What President Obama’s “records” amount to in practical terms is this: When you have more people riding in the economic wagon than you have pulling it, the economy will fail. Thanks to Barack Obama and his comrades on the left, American is closing in on the tipping point.

The “God” Obama and Readings from the Book of Barack (A Parody)

Newsweek_God of All Things_CroppedNewsweek magazine declared that President Obama was something like a god. The November 22, 2010 issue showed the President as the Hindu deity, Shiva, and carried the title “Obama God of all Things.”

Evan Thomas of Newsweek got a little carried away with all this talk about Obama’s “divine qualities” when he said the following on Hardball:

“In a way Obama is standing above the country, above the world. He’s sort of GOD. He’s going to bring all different sides together. . . . He’s the teacher. He is going to say, ‘Now, children, stop fighting and quarreling with each other.’ And he has a kind of a moral authority that he can do that.”

Apparently the folks at Newsweek did not realize that Lord Shiva is known as “the destroyer of the world.” How prophetic.

MSNBC’s David Shuster had this to say after an interview with President Obama: “An amazing interview . . . it never fails — great weather, rainbows, incredible speeches and three-point basket. A fly, and he nails it. Unbelievable. Unbelievable.”

The god Obama could not save Newsweek. Its owners are considering dumping its print edition and going fully digital.

In the spirit of the god-like Obama, the Iowahawk wrote a fitting description of this presidential god’s policies by giving him his own scriptures. Here is a partial rendering of the “Book of Barack.” You can read the entire “Scripture” here.

1 In the beginning Govt created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the economy was formless and void, darkness was over the surface of the ATMs, and the Spirit of Govt was hovering over the land.

3 And Govt said, “Let there be spending,” and there was spending. 4 Govt saw that the spending was good, and that it separated the light from the darkness. 5 Govt called the spending Investments, and this he did in the first day.

6 Then Govt said, “Let there be roads and bridges across the waters, and let dams divide the waters from the waters.” 7 Thus Govt made the infrastructure and the patronage jobs for eternity under the firmament from the Potomac which was above the firmament; and it was so. 8 And Govt called the firmament Washington. This Govt did on the second day.

9 Then Govt said, “Let the regulations and the guidelines under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the Bureaus appear”; and it was so. 10 And Govt called the Bureaus demigovts, and the gathering together of them He called AFSCME. And Govt saw that it was good.

11 Then Govt said, “Let there be police, and firefighters, and teachers according to their kind, for they will create more jobs”; and it was so. 12 And then Govt bade the void bring forth crime, and arson, and stupidity, that each would yield seed to bring forth more police, and firefighters, and teachers, and jobs. And Govt saw that it was good. 13 So the evening and the morning were the third day.
