CARLSBAD - Two women from southeastern New Mexico will have to repay the New Mexico Human Services Department tens of thousands of dollars for misusing public assistance funds.

The department says it's inspector general had launched separate investigations of Rosa Linda Molina of Eddy County and Ana Madrid of Roswell. They were both accused of fraudulently receiving financial assistance through the Medicaid and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, known as SNAP.

The claim against Madrid was more than $28,000. The claim against Molina topped $25,000.

As part of pre-prosecution agreements, both women must repay the money within two years or face jail time.

The department says Madrid also will be prohibited from receiving SNAP benefits for one year, and Molina for two years.
