Newt Gingrich to launch presidential bid Wednesday

    11:20 AM

Former House speaker Newt Gingrich on Wednesday will formally launch a bid for president via Facebook and Twitter, according to his spokesman.

Gingrich spokesman Rick Tyler said today that the new media announcements will be followed by an interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity on Wednesday night. Gingrich, a former Georgia GOP congressman, will give his first public speech about his candidacy at the Georgia Republican Party Convention on Friday.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Gingrich thanked supporters for the encouragement to run.

"I have been humbled by all the encouragement you have given me to run. Thank you for your support," Gingrich wrote. "Be sure to watch Hannity this Wednesday at 9pm ET/8pm CT. I will be on to talk about my run for President of the United States."

Gingrich announced a "testing the waters" committee in March, a distinction that falls short of a formal declaration.

Gingrich, who served in the House's top job from 1995-1998, has already launched his campaign headquarters in Atlanta. He did not participate last week in the first GOP presidential debate of the 2012 election cycle, held in South Carolina.

Unfortunately Newt has name recognition. I won't support him but a lot of Americans don't research the candidates like I and many on ALIPAC do. If they did, we wouldn't have ended up with someone like Obama in the White House and John McCain as the runner-up.

Bachman and Pawlenty, while not perfect, are a lot better than Obama, McCain, and Palin.

This RINO won't get far. All they have to do is bring up his extra marital affairs when he was a Congressman and he's toast.

There was a time your assessment would have been correct, but I'm not so sure these days. For example, look at Bill Clinton.
