The Catholic Diocese of Little Rock is getting thousands to help stop violence against immigrants.

The Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration awarded it a two-year, $151,500 grant. It's part of the Stop Violence Against Women Act Recovery Program.

Director of Catholic Immigration Services Maricella Garcia says it will help foster better relationships between the immigrant community and police departments across arkansas. "We see a lot of women who are being abused and they don't know where to turn. They don't know how to call the police, and they are afraid of the police because maybe the police in their home country are corrupt."

Garcia says Catholic Immigration Services expects to serve 350 women during the two-year grant cycle. But it's not limited to domestic violence victims; immigrants targeted for any crime can get help.
