A woman who was pepper sprayed during during a raid on Occupy Seattle last week is blaming police after she miscarried Sunday.

Jennifer Fox, 19, told The Stranger that she had been with the Occupy protests since they started in Westlake Park. She said she was homeless and three months pregnant, but felt the need to join activists during their march last Tuesday.

This is like the mother climbing the border fence when she was eight months pregnant. Anyone who would put their child at that much risk has no business being a parent. This is not the fault of the police.

The police are not a natural force like a storm or an earthquake that just does what it does. They are supposed to follow guidelines and are not supposed to just do anything to anybody. They don't have infinite rights.

Many people are concerned that the police response to protesters has been extremely excessive at times. The militarization of domestic police has put Americans in danger of police brutality.

Look up all the police shootings of people's dogs in private homes to see one manifestation of the concern.

Three months is pretty early. The miscarriage may or may not be related to the police. We'll have to wait for an investigation.

We Americans have a right to protest. It's hard to exercise free speech without a venue.

Sad that she lost her baby for certain.

Sad that it has come to mass protests all over in this country. We knew it was coming. We also knew that people were going to get hurt.

That is not to say I condone pepper spraying a pregnant woman IF they actually could hear her and distinguish what she was saying from all the chaos and yelling going on, and did not think she was just another protester resisting and coming at them and yelling in all the meelee.

To me that is the question. There are people swarming all around her and lots and lots of noise. Did the police KNOW she was pregnant? Could they even distinguish what she was yelling from all the chaos and noise around?

People will get hurt sometimes at these protests. Sometimes accidentally and sometimes on purpose - both law enforcement and protesters.

Yes, police do go overboard sometimes and yes, so do protesters.

    Sad.
