Gainesville plant to close, eliminating 50 jobs

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Polymer Group, Inc. (PGI) plans to consolidate manufacturing in the U.S. to lower its operating costs and improve overall performance - a move that means closing its Gainesville plant and one in Rogers, Arkansas.

Company officials say portions of the business will be transferred to locations in Mexico and Asia.

GLASGOW, Ky. - A central Kentucky bearings plant will shut down in March after 42 years due to increased competition overseas according to a company representative.

The plant's 83 employees were notified of the closing on Thursday.

RBC Tyson Bearings will shut its doors for good on March 6. The company, which produces tapered roller bearings for the truck market, opened in Glasgow in 1965.

Middlebury plant closes, 170 workers laid off

MIDDLEBURY — Specialty Filaments Inc., a manufacturer employing 170 people, has closed.

The brush maker cited overseas competition as the reason for suspending operations Friday to discuss its future with its senior lender.

Sparton Corp. to close New Mexico plant.

"Sparton Corporation has offered cable wire harness assembly services to select transportation customers for many years," the company said in a written statement. "Based upon the current business climate, the pressure of offshore pricing and demand within the market, Sparton can no longer offer competitive cable wire harness solutions to its customers."
