french answer to Gov Richardson endoring Obama in Spanish

Testing your french skills guys! I conveyed my thoughts, in french, tongue-in-cheek manner, to Governor Richardson who today endorsed Obama with a little Spanish flair. After all shouldn't I be able to assert my language rights, as an American, as Hispanics do, isn't this the future of our great Nation? Being sarcastic of course! Ok if you are really lost and can't translate it i promise I will provide a translation, pronto. OK here goes, i am showing off

    Cher Governeur

    Dear Governor

I am a French speaking American. Will you support me to represent French Americans who, like Hispanics, are part of our now multi-linguistic and multi-cultural nation. I think it’s time my rights, as a French American, are respected as are those Hispanic American rights. It is time to bury the monopoly of the English language and ensure that Spanish, French, Chinese, Russian, Korean, etcc, and in fact all languages represented in America become the national and official languages of our nation. And that way we will have a true democracy in full swing, don’t you think dear Governor? Wouldn’t it be a shame if my rights were less than those Hispanic Americans who now, with the help of what we call “identity politicsâ€

I under stand what your are saying and as a descendent of the Croatan Indian Nation would love to scream and holler and send all of you back home (just kidding) but I am 1st and foremost an American. I have to agree totally with Steady Teddy.

Theodore Roosevelt on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN

"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

What would happen if everyone wrote letters to the candidates in a foreign language? ANY foreign language? I think that would be an excellent idea!

There is room for only ONE unifying language in the US and that is English.

If a foreign language is being constantly shoved down our throats, why aren't ALL other foreign languages afforded the same "consideration"? It's EVERY language or English only, folks. Anything other than that would be discriminatory.

alamb, my mothers grandfather was from Nova Scotia. He was Mi'qmak and Acadian. They immigrated to Massachussets in 1890 (about there) and they only spoke French at home, NEVER in public.

My mother grew up never knowing French and was told English was the language they all spoke. She remembered her mothers parents, also French-Canadian in origin, speaking French.

The letter was beautifully put!! Press one for English, or shut up and go home. It is fine to speak a second language, and to have your children learning it. However when it is pushed on all Americans and also mandated to be accomodated by government, then there is a real problem.

Thank you for your sentiments. Exactly, this is America and there is place only for ONE unifying language. It is the principle of America (E Pluribus Unum). Enough, enough and enough. No language is more special than any other, other of course than English because that is our common language. I truly have had enough of the special status given to spanish. This is discriminatory to other immigrants (welcome to America Mr Wang, from China, will you be speaking English or Spanish in your new country and where will you live - please make sure you choose a State where the language of your choice is spoken - hello! ) and frankly look at where that leaves Hispanics today, a big number drops out of school because we are pandering to them. We now see everywhre, it's costing an arm and a leg. America cannot afford multi-lingualism, at all.

    Happy Easter!

Come on people. If you like my letter why don't we circulate it and have it sent to our politicians in every possible language. Let's confuse the this tower of Babel and make our point.
