WATERLOO - The 55 defendants pleading guilty and sentenced Tuesday, when added to the 85 who did so on Monday in U.S. District Court here, has brought the running total of workers arrested in a May 12 raid at Agriprocessers Inc. in Postville to 140.

Those entering pleas were among 389 people detained during the raid by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials. The court proceedings are taking place in makeshift court facilities in Waterloo.

U.S. Attorney Matt Dummermuth said in a news release today that 30 defendants were sentenced Tuesday to five months in prison and three years of supervised probation after pleading guilty to using a false identification document for obtain employment.

Also among the pleadings and sentencings Tuesday: 18 were sentenced to five months in prison and three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to using a false Social Security card number or card, Dummermuth said.

Sentencings were continuing today.
