MA-Council recommends immigrant policies
Council recommends immigrant policies
Boston Globe
July 2, 2009
BOSTON-A state advisory council on refugees and immigrants yesterday handed Governor Deval Patrick a long list of policy recommendations for better integrating immigrants in Massachusetts.
The report, the result of the governor’s executive order last year, was not made public because it is still a draft.
But the recommendations will focus on several areas, including healthcare, public safety, and increasing US citizenship, job training, and English instruction.
The report is based on research and testimony from more than 1,200 immigrants, policy makers, advocates, and others at six public hearings and 15 private meetings statewide, said Eva Millona, co-chairwoman of the council and executive director of the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition.
