NM-Special ops squadron moving to Cannon Air Force Base
(For the border?)
Special ops squadron moving to Cannon Air Force Base
Associated Press - May 22, 2008 10:15 PM ET
CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. (AP) - Cannon Air Force Base will soon be the new home to a squadron that specializes in flying unmanned aerial vehicles.
Members of New Mexico's congressional delegation say the assignment for the 3rd Special Operations Squadron -- currently based in Nevada -- will take effect in June.
The squadron works with the remotely controlled MQ1 Predator, meaning airmen at the base will operate the unmanned aerial vehicle as it performs missions elsewhere.
The delegation says the move will bring an additional 85 officers and 155 enlisted personnel to Clovis.
Earlier this month, the Air Force announced that the 16th Special Operations Squadron is moving to Clovis. That move will bring about 600 military personnel and 300 contractors to the base.
