    Help needed!!! Any Lawyers?

We recieved a phone call last night at approx 10:45 from my wife's mother. My wife's little sister who is 14, was ganged up on by 15 hispanic girls, and was beaten bloody. A neighbor broke up the fight at notified my mother in law. When they found her, she was unconscious and had gashes in her forehead. The kids that beat her up were all 17 and 18 years old. The reason they did this was so they could post it on YouTube, but the cops confiscated the cell phone that had the video. I did find a MySpace page of one of these girls where they confess what they did:

My mother in law wants to sue the crap out of all of the families involved, but she didn't even have the money to pay for the hospital bill let alone a lawyer. I say that since it was hispanics versus a white girl, I say that this is a hate crime. I want the book thrown at these people! Are there any lawyers out there that will take a case like this pro bono?

Also, is there any way to investigate the parents? I would like to know if they are here legally, and if not, I want them deported. I am so stinking mad right now I can barely type!! Please, anybody with legal experience please help me!

I would send out a statement as a family member about the horror of this hate crime to all media in the area, also emphasizing how much ethnic gang violence is going on, and this doesn't sound like a simple case of bullying. And I would also see if your mother-in-law could get a copy of the cell phone video, police report and approach legal aid.
My thought is that once media has covered this story there will be a few lawyers popping out of the woodwork.
I hope your sister-in-law will be okay. This is absolutely horrendous!

I would contact the ACLU. If they are so into gay rights, they should have at least someone to talk to. Also perhaps a personal injury lawyer. Most lawyers will talk to anyone and the consultation is usually free. But if these families have no $$ then suing may be a waste of lawyers time. I would make sure the media knows, and that is going to take a lot of work from many folks and you need to hit many different regions in TX to get your story out. Also is there a congressman or Senator that you can turn to that is sympathetic to our cause? Call and have many of your supporters hit them up for this. Also, if you get this printed in the paper, post it here with your congressmans info and we can bombard them with demands of action to be taken. I think hte law may be your best frinnd. DONT get dismayed when you get a door closed. Never give up on this. Take many pictures of the girl for the newspaper, attorneys, etc.

The sherrif's office may have some advice for you as well. Good luck.

Really sorry to hear about that. What state are you looking for lawyers in? Don't count on the ACLU to do a damn thing because you are talking about an attack on a white person by those, you know, minorities. You can check the State Bar Association and perhaps research Pro-bono lawyers. But I agree with others who say take photos, statements, copies of webpages, etc, to the local sheriff and press charges against the kids AND their parents AND anyone else involved.

    Please pass on my prayers.

Sounds like a HATE Crime to me!

I would look around for a really good attny, and a PI to look for assets of every family involved. Don't let the attny hire a PI, it will cost you twice as much. Do an asset search on every Adult parent who's child participated or was at the beating. Even if they did not participate, they were there and Could of stepped in to stop the beating. Moral conduct!

Create a time line at least 2 days prior to the beating, outline who she contacted, what she did and where she went. If she had any prior contact with these girls, get that documented, and if there were witnesses to those meetings get it in writting. Contact the parents of thoose kids you want to get support from, and get thier permission in writting!

    BE ANAL! DETAILS DETAILS DETAILS!

Go to the DA, get copies of all the records! Including hospital, ambulance, tests!

Look for a lawyer, get references! Ask how much they charge to: Write letters, court sessions, supponeas, arbitration, hourley rates...EVERYTHING! Also PRIOR experience in HATE CRIME CASES!

Good luck, and let us know..

Here is the latest. According to the neighborhood kids that know the girl that posted on her myspace page, the original message said something to the effect that "I beat a WHITE girl today", but as you can see from the pic I posted above, she changed it.

This was DEFINITELY a hate crime! I did find some information. I contacted Legal Aid of Northwest Texas, and as soon as my mother in law gets the video and police report on Wednesday, they said they would look at the case. I was thinking of the ACLU, but they don't care about white people unless they are the ones beating people up. I will keep you guys updated as soon as I know something.

Thanks for your support and suggestions!

Be careful with lawyers. I've had/have 6 lawyers and four were crap. I even got one lawyer barred by the Washington State Bar Association. Fortunately, I now have 1 good California lawyer AND 1 good Washington State lawyer. One California lawyer and three Washington State lawyers were worthless.

If you report this to law enforcement, they can request info from myspace, which will show everything that was ever posted on her myspace.
