PHOENIX - The new blockbuster on the big screen, Piranha 3-D, was filmed in Arizona's Lake Havasu. And this story might have you wondering fact... or fiction?

Michaela Hinton now has a cool fish tale to tell her friends. She started fishing at the tender age of 3, but she never expected catching something like this.

Sunday, Michaela was fishing in Cortez Lake, right behind her family's condominium, when she caught a piranha!

"The cork went under, and it started buzzing, and I picked up the rod... at first we thought it was a big perch, because it couldn't be anything else," says Michaela.

Her father adds, "I thought it was a gigantic perch until we got it up, and then it started snapping. I was like, wait a minute, that's not supposed to be there... I didn't want to get my finger bitten off!"

The Hintons say they'll keep fishing, but will be a little more careful next time.

Arizona Game and Fish says that when unusual species show up in lakes, they're usually unwanted pets that have been dumped -- which is illegal, because that can wreak havoc on Arizona's natural ecosystem.

FOX 10's Dan Spindle has more.
