Not all immigrants understand or agree with assimilation

This just got posted on a board that give encouragement to people who come here on temporary guestworker visas with the ulterior plan to become permanent immigrants (mostly, but not exclusively, from India):

The good mother is one who can love her adopted children as much as she loves her natural children. Any "ordinary" mother can love her natural children more than adopted ones and "most selfish" people choose not to adapt. Now a good mother should also be able to instill values in her children that her adapted child is her natural childs "brother". Also if a white mother adapts a black son, it does not make her a wise or good mother if she asks or insists that her black son change the color of his skin.

The point I am making is, US accept whoever they are accepting as immigrants as they are. If the immigrants want to change their culture it is upto them if not it is still upto them. Dont try to "force" your values or views on others. Thats called a smartass. And you know nobody likes smartasses.

Yeah well I still don't want to live under Sharia law. It is my right as a US citizen to not suffer Sharia law. That is their viewpoint and their values and they can keep them there. (I know not India's per se - but there is yes and no to what is being said.)

Plus I am thinking that the whole world views US as extremely racist and sorry, but I don't. Sure there is racism - but no more than what they have in their own nation and most likely less since we are more used to having people from all over the world than most of them are. So if they wish to come with preconceived notions - that is all that they will see and that is all they will get -racism. You get what you focus on. If that is what they focus on maybe they should forget about coming to the U.S.

No ones asking them to lose thier culture, just to adopt ours as a part of thier own. I don't agree that asking immigrants to be American is being a smart ass - just smart period.
