This story struck me since he's a fugative from Mexico and how we can't rely on background checks for all the illegals.

Police arrest man wanted in Ill., Mexico

NORCROSS, Ga. -- A fugitive who is wanted in Illinois, Iowa and Mexico was arrested after forcing his way into an apartment and later falling asleep on the couch.

Juan Javier Tapia, 24, who was been featured on the television show "America's Most Wanted," was arrested Sunday after forcing his way into an apartment and trying to fight with a resident there.

Gwinnett County police arrived to find Tapia had eaten all the resident's food and had drunk all of his alcohol, said Darren Moloney, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department. The officers found Tapia asleep on the couch and handcuffed him before waking him up.

In custody, Tapia gave police a false name but police were able to determine his true identity.

Tapia is wanted in Waukegan, Ill., on three counts of attempted murder in connection with the stabbings of three people during a domestic dispute. He is also wanted in Davenport, Iowa, on charges of kidnapping his 1-year-old, noncustodial daughter.

Tapia is also listed as a fugitive from Mexico for homicide with a knife, kidnapping and child stealing, Moloney said. Gwinnett County police were unable to provide details of Tapia's alleged crimes in Mexico.

Waukegan police Cmdr. Mark McCormick said Tapia was arrested about a year ago but had bonded out of jail and fled the area. Authorities there will seek to extradite him from Georgia, McCormick said. The FBI has also placed a hold on Tapia.

He is actually a US citizen according to the other article posted here. He is a criminal in both countries.
