Whitefish Veterans Jesus
NEWS UPDATE & RALLY ANNOUNCEMENT

First, I want to say thank you.

Thank you to the tens of thousands of you who have stood with me in support of some good old fashioned common sense. Thanks for sticking up for the Big Mountain's historic World War II Veterans Memorial statue of Jesus. Together, we can win this fight.

Since we first learned that the Forest Service intended to deny a Special Permit extension for the use of a 25x25 foot section for this important monument to our veterans, your response been overwhelming. The Veterans Jesus Memorial brought us together. It united Democrats and Republicans, Christians, Jews and Atheists - even skiers and snowboarders - in a single, worthwhile cause.

With your support, we bought some time. The Forest Service withdrew its demands that the Veterans Jesus be removed, and agreed to open the decision to public comment. I launched a website to collect your comments.

But we're not out of the woods yet. The Forest Service is still going to make a decision, and that's why we need your help. First, help spread the word by using this form tell your friends what's going on and encourage them to weigh in, too.

Rally for Veterans Jesus

Please join me at a public rally in support of the Veterans Jesus Statue in Whitefish, Montana. If you're like me, you understand how much this statue means. It’s not just a statue of Jesus, but a memorial of appreciation for the veterans who fought to make this country free. It’s a meeting place in the middle of a day of skiing and a place for quiet contemplation overlooking the valley below. And on Thursday, it’s going to be a rallying point for the Whitefish community.

Veterans Jesus Rally Details:

When: Thursday, November 10 at 1:00 PM
Where: Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 276, 20 Baker Avenue, Whitefish, Montana
Who: Congressman Denny Rehberg, members of the public, press

DRAFT Legislative Solution

I've always said that the best ideas don't come from Washington, D.C., but from regular folks in Montana and around the country. It was on a radio interview in Kalispell, Montana that someone suggested a simple, common sense solution. Why not just trade the federal land for private land - acre-for-acre - so the statue can stay right where it is?

The more I thought about it, the more I thought it could actually work, so it became the basis for a new bill I've crafted that does just that.

But I want your input. Before I introduce this legislation, I hope you'll take a look at it and let me know what you think. It's only 2 pages long.

Please read the bill and leave your comments online by clicking here.

For those who do not know what this is about. The Freedom From Religion group has brought pressure on The Forest Service to deny continuance of the leasing of a 25' by 25' spot by the Knights of Columbus containing a statue of Jesus. This subversive group of atheists has to be beat back every time they show up anywhere and try and remove all evidence of faith or religion.
