It doesn't seem to me that police is prosecuting this vile act as a race hate attack. Fortunately I'm not a Briton.

A 21-year-old man fears he will be scarred for life after he was allegedly assaulted in a Bristol city centre street.

Jake Peters was left needing 15 stitches to patch up wounds on his face. It is claimed that Mr Peters was set upon by a gang of up to 15 black youths who were said to have shouted racist remarks during the incident.

Jake, a UK hip-hop dance champion, is said to have been kicked in the face and had his head stamped on.

Police now want to speak to a number of people in connection with the late-night incident, which happened in All Saints Street at 3.15am on Sunday.

An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm after going to a police station in the city yesterday. He was being questioned last night.

Jake's family say they have passed the names of some people they believe were in the group to the police.

But they say they are frustrated that the police have yet to take statements from a number of witnesses who saw what happened.

Jake's father Martin said: "I've done a lot of digging myself and handed police all sorts of information."

Police took Jake's statement at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, where a friend took him to have his wounds stitched up.

Avon and Somerset police spokesman Ian Drury said it would take "some time" for investigating officers to speak all the people they needed to in connection with the incident.

He said: "We are grateful that a member of Mr Peters' family has assisted the investigation and would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the assault to contact police."
