NRA LAUNCHES $500,000 AD CAMPAIGN AGAINST TERRY MCAULIFFE

Posted on 28 September, 2013 by clyde

According to Breitbart because Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe (D) continues playing hide and seek with the details of his gun control plans, the National Rifle Association (NRA) is launching a $500,000 ad campaign to highlight exactly what he supports.

Beginning September 30, the NRA will air “television and online ads” highlighting McAuliffe’s support for Manchin/Toomey-like legislation that would put universal background checks in place in Virginia–a death knell for private sales in the state.

He also wants to close the so-called “gun show loophole” and limit Virginians to a purchasing one gun a month, period.

As Breitbart News reported when Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) was pushing universal background checks earlier this year, no universal background check system is workable unless it is joined with gun registration. Even if gun registration is not in the original bill it will have to be added because authorities cannot know who is or is not selling a gun to their neighbor without a background check unless they first know who owns every gun and where every one is stored.

NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam told the Washington Post:

Terry McAuliffe has come out and basically stated his support for every gun control scheme imaginable.

And if Terry has his way, the burden of law in Virginia will be on law-abiding gun owners and not on criminals. That’s a wrong-headed approach. Virginia needs leaders who are going to be tough on crime and tough on criminals.
