Sasse Says He ‘Regularly Considers’ Leaving the Republican Party
Sasse Says He ‘Regularly Considers’ Leaving the Republican Party

The Nebraska senator tweeted about it on Saturday.
Republican senator Ben Sasse, a critic not only of President Donald Trump but of his own political party, said on Saturday that he has considered leaving the GOP on more than one occasion.
The Nebraska lawmaker responded to a Twitter user who asked if he would think about following her example of ditching the Democratic party to become an unaffiliated voter.
“[Y]ep, regularly consider it,” he wrote, “(except for the ‘from Dem’ part).”
The timing of Sasse’s comment dovetails with his criticism of Congress during the Supreme Court confirmation hearings of Judge Brett Kavanaugh last week, when he assailed the legislative branch for allowing the judiciary to become politicized. The reason for such politicization, he said, partly stemmed from legislators forfeiting their responsibility as lawmakers, whether to agencies in the executive branch or to federal courts.
“Our political commentary talks about the Supreme Court like they’re people wearing red and blue jerseys,” Sasse said on Tuesday.
But Sasse has narrowed in on his own party in the past, as well. During an interview with economist Tyler Cowen last year, for example, he called both the Republican and Democratic parties “intellectually exhausted.”
“I don’t think either party can articulate a vision for America that’s five or ten years future-looking right now,” he said. “So when you ask the American people, ‘Do you identify more with the Republican party or the Democratic party,’ and if you don’t give them the option to say ‘none of the above,’ 46 percent of people still interrupt to say ‘none of the above.’”
Sasse sounded open to joining them with his tweet on Saturday.

People like Ben Sasse, just make me wince. The only people "intellectually exhausted" are the self-appointed "intellectuals" who don't get anything done. Not for many years has the Republican Party had such a plan, a vision, a short and long-term map to fix our country as we do now which includes make peace in the world, fix our bad trade deals, get our own citizens back to work at good wages with full-time jobs and benefits, rebuild our core primary industries like coal, energy, steel, aluminum and many others, fix our taxes to lower them, make US more competitive, and give many a simplification of their tax returns, fix our decrepit inner cities, work on our infrastructure, deregulation, reduce immigration both illegal and legal, promote our nation instead of underwriting others, modernize our military, negotiate solutions to military threats in North Korea and Iran, and so much more.
And Republicans owe all of this to President Trump. Many of these broad goals have always been part of the Republican Party's objectives, but we didn't have anyone who understood them well enough and deep enough to actually do anything about them until Donald Trump, so the bad boys who were intent on destroying our country had free reign. Now there's Donald Trump and he's shutting the bad boys down in both parties and in all segments, instituting the real deal for our country, and that is why they hate him with such passion.
So Ben, I don't know what ego boat you crawled out of, but I've listened to you run your mouth as if you're some "intellectual" for several years now, but you're all talk, no action, and the self-serving nature of your talk over-rides any benefit your "intellectual" interests might have otherwise had. For example, you're a "free trader", well, of course you are, because you're a farmer who cares only about your markets and benefits, instead of the country that depends on manufacturing operations to survive, not the price of hamburger or whether a dairy farmer can sell milk from 5,000 cows and make a profit instead of 4,500.
After all, cows don't vote.
