Two people were killed and at least 19 others were wounded in shootings across Chicago since Friday evening.

One man was shot dead and another was wounded in a drive-by shooting early Sunday in the South Side Back of the Yards neighborhood.

The men were standing on a corner in the 4400 block of South Honore about 12:30 a.m. when a red SUV and a light car pulled up and the occupants fired shots, police said.
A 40-year-old man was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene, police said. A 38-year-old man was shot in the neck and taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition stabilized.
People who knew the 40-year-old gathered under sheets of rain at the scene, some arguing with police about why his body was still on scene an hour after the shooting.
Friends of the victim said he had been released from a three-year prison stint a couple months ago.

Carmen Galzan, 37, said she had grown up with the man in the neighborhood and described him as a “silly” and “funny” friend. She said he had been gang-affiliated since he was a kid.
“He just came out of jail, and he was just tired,” Galzan said. “He was just tired of living this life.”
The other fatal shooting of the weekend happened early Saturday in Englewood.
Kelly Burrell, 23, and a 20-year-old man were on a porch in the 7300 block of South Green at 2:50 a.m. Saturday when a light-colored vehicle drove up and someone inside fired shots, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Both were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.
Burrell was shot in the chest and was pronounced dead at the hospital, authorities said. She lived on the same block as the shooting.
The man suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and a graze wound to the abdomen and his condition was stabilized, police said.
The most recent nonfatal shooting happened Sunday night in the Austin neighborhood.
Three men were shot about 6:20 p.m. in the 900 block of North Lorel, police said.
A 27-year-old man was shot in the abdomen and hip and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition. A second man, 36, was shot in the buttocks and arm and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition stabilized, police said.
A 32-year-old man was shot in the leg and took himself to West Suburban Medical Center, where his condition stabilized.
At least 14 other people have been wounded in separate shootings across the city since 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Three Killed, 22 Wounded On Chicago Weekend Shootings

Three Killed, 22 Wounded On Chicago Weekend Shootings

    June 15, 2015 8:05 AM

CHICAGO (STMW) — Three people were killed and at least 22 others were wounded in shootings across Chicago since Friday evening, police said.

A 31-year-old man died after he was one of three people shot Sunday evening in the West Side Austin neighborhood, police said.

The men were standing in the 900 block of North Lorel about 6:20 p.m. when an armed male walked up and fired numerous shots, police said.

The 31-year-old was shot in the side and back and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.
A 36-year-old man was shot multiple times and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition, police said. A third man, 31, was shot in the right leg and taken to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, where his condition stabilized.
All three men are documented gang members and police are investigating whether the shooting was gang-related, according to a police source.
Early Sunday, one man was shot dead and another was wounded in a drive-by shooting in the South Side Back of the Yards neighborhood.
The men were standing on a corner in the 4400 block of South Honore about 12:30 a.m. when a red SUV and a light car pulled up and the occupants fired shots, police said.
David Martinez, Jr., 40, of the 4500 block of South Washtenaw, was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
A 38-year-old man was shot in the neck and taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition stabilized.
People who knew Martinez gathered under sheets of rain at the scene, some arguing with police about why his body was still on scene an hour after the shooting.
Friends of the victim said he had been released from a three-year prison stint a couple months ago.
Carmen Galzan, 37, said she had grown up with Martinez in the neighborhood and described him as a “silly” and “funny” friend. She said he had been gang-affiliated since he was a kid.
“He just came out of jail, and he was just tired,” Galzan said. “He was just tired of living this life.”
The weekend’s first fatal shooting happened early Saturday in Englewood.
The man shot suffered a wound to the leg and a graze wound to the abdomen and his condition was stabilized, police said.
The most recent nonfatal shooting left a man wounded near the United Center early Monday.
The 39-year-old man was shot in the buttocks in the 2200 block of West Adams at 3:37 a.m., police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition stabilized, police said.
