A Salt Lake Law firm retains $1000.00 for Immigration papers

To everyone who longs for justice,

I give you the best wishes of 2008!

I am inviting you to a hearing on 01/17/08 at 5:30pm in room W34, 3rd
Floor of the courthouse on about 400S and State Street in SLC. This
is in reference to a debt which occured when Trupiano Law office collected
$1000.00 retainer fee on an assignment I gave the office to obtain
information US immigration requested from the University by Immigration deadline of 10 October 2007.

The office did not obtain the information. The office is unwilling to
return the thousand dollars in question.

    Please come!

    Always,

Unsure what this is about--you gave the law firm $1000 to obtain information about yourself that the Immigration service requested?
Are you in the process of becoming a citizen?

Did you sign any papers regarding the retainer? If so go over them. I don't see why you need an immigration lawyer while in university. I was originally an international student and then got a visa for one year for optional training and never used a lawyer during that process. Please tell me more. If possible put a complaint in to the Bar Association regarding this lawyer and they will look into it.

If you have any questions call your state's Attorney General Office.
They are usually best suited to follow up on allegations of unscrupulous practices of legal professionals.

    On 1000 dollars

I paid Trupiano Law Firm a thousand dollars retainer fee on an assignment to obtain documents USCIS requested from WSU. The specific assignment I had for the law firm was to write on my behalf, a letter of demand, for us to discuss the letter and then if we agree, mail the letter. The office did not carry out this assignment and I wanted the money back. The Judge said a the hearing on Thursday, January 17th that my claim had no merit. I will be returning with more details on the issue.

Yes I signed papers regarding the retainer. You are right, I used to process all my transactions with Immigration without having to use an attorney. In this case however, the University has been refusing to release the evidence USCIS requested to complete my application. That is why I needed an attorney. As example, the international students' office would not release the OPT I-20 USCIS required to complete the application. I could not make the University release this information so I asked the attorney to write a letter to demand the information on my account.
Thank you for the directions to the Bar . I hate being here illegally despite all I do to make things right!

    AGO vs Utah Bar

If I file a complaint with the Bar, is it still necessary to seek help from the AGO's office?
